Unicorn Riot: “Tribal Citizens Build Camp in Path of Oil Pipeline<\/a>”\u00a0<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0 \u00a0 The opening of the \u201cI\u014bya\u014b Wak\u021f\u00e1\u014ba\u01e7api Oth\u00ed\u201d (Sacred Stone Camp), a<\/span>\u00a0Spirit Camp<\/a>\u00a0on April 1st. \u00a0A caravan of over 200 supporters, led by forty riders on horse, left Fort Yates for a thirty mile trek to the camp located just north of Cannonball. \u00a0\u00a0They are also concerned about North Dakota\u2019s safety\u00a0<\/span>record<\/a>; the state never notified residents about more than 300 spills which occurred over a two year period. \u00a0The tribal citizens felt that the tribes weren\u2019t properly consulted, and the building of the pipeline violates treaties made with the United States.
